Congratulations and welcome to Brandon University! Complete the tasks on this page to start your course registration process and to help you prepare for the first day of classes.<\/p>\n

This may look like a long list, however, they do not all need to be done at once – and some are not relevant to every student. Complete steps 1 through 3 as early as possible<\/strong>, as this is needed for many of the other tasks.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t1. Know your student number\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t
\n\t\t\t\nYou will need your six-digit BU student number<\/strong> many times throughout your journey as a student. You can find your student number on your acceptance letter from Admissions<\/strong>. Lost it? No worries. Email Admissions@BrandonU.ca<\/a>
\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n\n\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t2. Claim your BU Username & Password (Claim ID)\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t
\n\t\t\t\nTo begin you will need to claim your BU Username and Password (Claim ID). You will need your student number to do this. Follow the directions on the IT Helpdesk website<\/a> to claim your ID (username and password). Remember\/record your username and password because you will use them to log into important student portals<\/strong> such as the Student Information System, BU Webmail, Moodle, and on-campus computers.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t3. Find your BU email account and check it often\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t
\n\t\t\t\nYou will need your username and password to log into your BU email account<\/strong>. You can easily access your BU email account by going to the top of the BU homepage<\/a>, and clicking on the word WEBMAIL in the top right corner.<\/p>\n

There are two things to know about your Webmail:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. You need to check your webmail regularly! Your BU email account is the primary way that university offices and professors will contact you about your classes, wait-lists, upcoming events, and so much more!<\/li>\n
  2. Follow the Webmail Guide<\/a> to learn how to set up your email account, access Office 365, check email on your phone and other helpful tips.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \n\t\t\t\t4. Advising, Course Selection, & Course Registration\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\n

    After completing steps 1-3 above, visit the advising\/course selection website by clicking here: Advising\/Course Selection<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

    You will need your username and password to make an appointment and to use the course registration system, which can be obtained by following Steps 1-3.<\/p>\n

    Once you go to the advising\/course selection website, click on your program to learn about course planning and registration, how to make an advising appointment, and get started! If you have forgotten your program, check your Acceptance Letter from Admissions.<\/p>\n

    Some programs will require course advising and some will not. However, advising is always strongly recommended <\/strong><\/em>for first-year students. Students who choose to register on their own without course advising (for programs in which this is permitted) must still follow the steps to learn about course planning and how to register on the Advising\/Course Selection website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n\n\t\t\t\t\t

    \n\t\t\t\t5. Apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\n

    Learn more about and apply for Scholarships, Bursaries, and Scholarship-Bursaries at Brandon University by visiting the Scholarships and Awards page<\/strong><\/a>. Apply early!<\/strong><\/em> To see how averages are calculated for scholarship eligibility for entrance awards click here<\/a>. For questions about Scholarships and Awards, contact Scholarships@BrandonU.ca<\/a><\/p>\n

    Canadian students with financial need may apply for provincial<\/a> and Canada Student Loans<\/a>. Application procedures can vary by province. If you are a Canadian from outside of Manitoba, visit the Canada Student Loans<\/a> website to find out how loans are administered for your home province.<\/p>\n

    \n\t\t\t\t6. Advanced Placement\/International Baccalaureate Credit (If Applicable)\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\n

    <\/strong>Complete and return the AP\/IB Request Form<\/a> to the Admissions Office before August 31 if you wish to have your Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) results considered for transfer to Brandon University.<\/p>\n

    Advanced Placement (AP)<\/h3>\n

    Receiving transfer credit for Advanced Placement is voluntary. Students must apply for transfer credit by completing a Request Form<\/a> by August 31. Transfer credit for Advanced Placement is granted in specific subject areas if a minimum score of 3 is achieved with some departments requiring a minimum score of 4.\u00a0 The Faculty of Science requires a minimum grade of 4 for transfer.<\/p>\n

    The College Board number for Brandon University is 000905.<\/p>\n

    International Baccalaureate (IB)<\/h3>\n

    Transfer credit for International Baccalaureate is granted upon request. Students must apply for transfer credit by completing a Request Form<\/a> by August 31.\u00a0 Higher Level IB courses with a grade of 4 or higher are eligible for transfer credit.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n\n\t\t\t\t\t

    \n\t\t\t\t7. Connect with the Office of International Activities (If Applicable)\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

    International students<\/strong> please visit the Office of International Activities<\/a> website for more information about the supports available to assist you with your transition to BU.\u00a0 Or contact their office at International@BrandonU.ca<\/a><\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n\n\t\t\t\t\t

    \n\t\t\t\t8. Pre-Orientation\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\n

    Pre-Orientation occurs in summer before the big Orientation Day in September. Pre-Orientation is smaller and may be helpful for those of you who may be feeling nervous, have burning questions, or just like to get a jump on figuring things out!<\/p>\n

    Do you have a disability or chronic medical condition and require academic accommodations or assistive technology? Connect with Student Accessibility Services<\/a> as early as possible<\/strong> before the start of the school year to discuss the services and supports that you may access during the upcoming school year.\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n\n\t\t\t\t\t

    \n\t\t\t\t10. Apply for Residence (If Applicable)\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\n

    \n\t\t\t\t11. Purchase Parking Permit (If Applicable)\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\n

    If you will be driving to campus, explore your parking options: Long Term Parking<\/a>, Short Term Parking<\/a>, and Carpool Parking<\/a>. If you choose to get to BU by bike check out our secure bike compound.<\/a><\/p>\n

    Be sure to follow the purchase instructions to secure your permit. Please watch your Brandon University inbox or the parking website<\/a> for updates. <\/span>For further inquiries, please contact the Parking Office<\/a>.\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n\n\t\t\t\t\t

    \n\t\t\t\t12. Organize Daycare (If Applicable)\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\n

    As a BU student, you may also be in need of daycare services for your child or children. Located at 303, 21st Street (close to campus), the BU Early Learning Centre is open from 7:45 am to 5:30 pm for children between the ages of 21 months and 8 years old. For more information on registration, fees, and the program, visit the Centre or call (204) 725-0968 or email<\/a> for information. Sign up for daycare as soon as possible; this step should not be delayed due to daycare waitlist shortages. While there is on-campus daycare, spots fill up very quickly. Please follow the steps below.<\/p>\n

    1. Register on the Manitoba Online Childcare Registry<\/a>.<\/li>\n
    2. Call local daycares<\/a> and ask to be put on waitlists.<\/li>\n
    3. Check local web pages, such as EBrandon<\/a> for daycare listings.\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
