\"MarkBrief Biography<\/h3>\n

I was born and raised in the United States. Since 2005 I have lived, worked, and studied in S. Korea, Japan, and most recently Canada where I have been since 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n

Where did you grow up?<\/h3>\n

I still haven’t grown up – but mostly Louisville, Kentucky.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why are you interested in Geology?<\/h3>\n

I get to investigate mysteries that are billions of years old, play with expensive equipment, and make decent money while I do it.<\/p>\n

How did you become interested in Geology?<\/h3>\n

I wanted to be involved in a science\u00a0that paid well and had lots of different\u00a0career paths.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Personal journey-history?<\/h3>\n

It’s a long, non-linear storyline with lots of plot twists. The journey continues.<\/span><\/p>\n

Geology career opportunities?<\/h3>\n

Mining is doing as well as it ever has. People are being hired before they graduate right now.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Role of BU Geology?<\/h3>\n

If you take the role of student seriously you can succeed in geology at any school in Canada. They all have great programs and professors. Having said that, why pay 2 or 3 or 5 times more for far less one on one time and in the end, the same qualification as someone who paid way more? I graduated with no student debt and had the ability to speak with professors who knew me by\u00a0face and name from my first year. Also, if I’m being completely honest, BU grads hit WAAAY above our weight and have a pretty good network of people.<\/span><\/p>\n

Any sage advice for prospective high school students?<\/h3>\n

Being smart is fine but being kind and genuinely enthusiastic is better. Who you know is important in any career, so make friends.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
