Geology Supervisor with Hudbay Minerals Inc. at Lalor Mine in Snow Lake, MB<\/h2>\n

\"GrantBorn and raised in the small mining community of Flin Flon, I think I was destined to have a career with rocks.\u00a0 How do you not find a love for rocks when you’re from “the city built on rock”? Being from a small town, I knew I needed to attend a university with that same hometown feel and I found that at Brandon University. When I first attended Brandon University I had different plans,\u00a0 Geology wasn’t even in the picture. It was in second year, when I took my first Geology course meeting Dr. Simon Pattison and Lab Assistant Peter Adamo. Their passion for Geology and my new found interest had me electing a new major and signing up for all things Geology. If it wasn’t for the strong personal connections gained with the professors and fellow classmates, I don’t think I would have succeeded at university. We really did have that tight knit group I was seeking. Graduating, my interest was in the hard rock, the mining, and unfortunately jobs were scarce unless you already had experience. I did find employment within a year though, started by taking a contract position logging core with Hudbay. After a year of that, I was hired full time and became an Underground Beat Geologist. I would go on to help introduce grade control sampling as we transitioned to a Gold mine and then switched over to Diamond Drill scheduling. Finally, with 5 years at Hudbay \u00a0I have become a Geology Supervisor. What I’m seeing now on the market is a high demand for entry level Geologists. The mining industry is a small community, you’d be surprised by the people you meet and the connections you make, keep them positive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
