After graduating from high school, I decided to stay in Brandon to complete my first degree. I felt that the community and support was important to me as I transitioned into this next stage of my life.<\/p>\n

I chose to pursue a major in chemistry and a minor in biology. After completing my first year, I wanted to become more involved with the BU community. These included working as a teacher\u2019s assistant, tutoring chemistry classes, being a member of the chemistry club and a member of the World University Service of Canada (or WUSC).<\/p>\n

From the students, faculty, and staff members to the donors and alumni of Brandon University, I found the support and close community that I was looking for at BU.<\/p>\n

“The scholarships and awards I had received throughout my degree have had a tremendous positive impact in my life. These awards allowed me to focus on my education and have also been a great motivation and helped to nurture my passion for learning and pursuing further education.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I really want to thank the BU foundation and donors for supporting me and other BU students in our journey to success. The generosity and support is truly a blessing. I feel so grateful to be a student at a university that has so many supporters who are rooting for the success of BU students, and opening many opportunities for us, both during our degree and afterwards. The Brandon College we knew was much smaller and more intimate than the Brandon University of today, but the values and purpose have not changed. Our time at BU was not just study and play; it was an introduction to a changing world and a new way of life. We were both rural kids and grew up on the farm. Our schooling was one-room country schools and small-town schools where everyone knew everyone else. We still treasure those memories, but that way of life was disappearing.<\/p>\n

As a proud alumna of Brandon University, I\u2019m always looking for ways to show my gratitude to the institution, the community and all the people who set an incredible foundation for my life and career. Now, as a professional screenwriter and feature film director,<\/p>\n

Brandon became our home for almost 30 years. We found the community generous and inviting to us as new comers, a great place to raise our young family and over time, as we grew to better know the community, presented fabulous opportunities to engage in numerous community-building organizations and activities. Indeed, Brandon rendered our whole family a vibrant, active, engaged and fulfilling experience.<\/p>\n
