Most often the message creates a sense of urgency or scare-tactics hoping that you will react quickly and haphazardly giving up sensitive information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What does a Phishing email look like?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Here is an example of a Phishing email:<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/helpdesk\/files\/2018\/10\/Phishing.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/helpdesk\/files\/2018\/10\/Phishing.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"233\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-964\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/helpdesk\/files\/2018\/10\/Phishing.png 576w, https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/helpdesk\/files\/2018\/10\/Phishing-300x121.png 300w, https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/helpdesk\/files\/2018\/10\/Phishing-180x73.png 180w, https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/helpdesk\/files\/2018\/10\/Phishing-250x101.png 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>The red numbers indicate everything that is wrong with this message. If any email you receive contains any one of these issues it may be a Phishing email.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Email is not from from Brandon University and is requesting action as if they are.<\/li>\n<li>Wording is not consistent with wording used on campus.<\/li>\n<li>Greeting is generic.<\/li>\n<li>There is urgency applied to the action required.<\/li>\n<li>When the mouse is over the link it displays the destination of the link which is a random website.<\/li>\n<li>The signature is generic claiming to be the &#8220;IT Department&#8221; with no other identification.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>What should I do if I&#8217;ve received a phishing email?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Forward it to &#x61;&#110;t&#x69;&#115;p&#x61;&#109;&#64;&#x62;&#x72;&#97;&#x6e;&#x64;&#111;n&#x75;&#46;c&#x61;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What should I do if I&#8217;ve opened a link from a phishing email?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/staffpasswordreset.brandonu.ca\">Change your password<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/helpdesk\/staff\/campus-antivirus-installation\/\">Run a virus\/malware scan<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Contact the Brandon University Help Desk<\/li>\n<li>Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getcybersafe.gc.ca\/cnt\/rsks\/cmmn-thrts-en.aspx#s05\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Get Cyber Safe Phishing<\/a> website<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Phishing?
