{"id":299,"date":"2012-05-30T15:56:48","date_gmt":"2012-05-30T20:56:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mancini.brandonu.ca\/human-resources\/?page_id=299"},"modified":"2014-04-10T13:16:40","modified_gmt":"2014-04-10T18:16:40","slug":"supervisor-checklist","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/hr\/administrators-tools\/supervisor-checklist\/","title":{"rendered":"Supervisor Checklist for New Employee"},"content":{"rendered":"<aside class='post-299 float'>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/hr\/files\/NewEmployeeChecklist.pdf\">Download a PDF version of this page<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you are unable to open PDF <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/wp-content\/themes\/brandonu\/images\/icon_pdf.png\" width=\"24\" height=\"13\" \/> files, you will need to install the free <a href=\"http:\/\/get.adobe.com\/reader\/\">Adobe Reader<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n\n<p>The following are suggestions for both academic and administrative support positions and all suggestions may not be applicable.<\/p>\n<h2>Prior to start date<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure the employee has signed their employment contract and returned it to HR<\/li>\n<li>Computer setup &#8211; Contact IT Services ext. 767\n<ul>\n<li>User name\/id<\/li>\n<li>Password(s)<\/li>\n<li>Email setup<\/li>\n<li>Ensure all relevant programs\/software are on system<\/li>\n<li>Printer connections<\/li>\n<li>Telephone setup\/Add new employee to BU Directory listing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Mailbox setup \u2013 Mail Services<\/li>\n<li>Order business cards &amp; name badge \u2013 Contact Purchasing ext. 706<\/li>\n<li>Order office door sign &amp; keys &#8211; Contact Physical Plant ext. 620<\/li>\n<li>Complete paperwork with Human Resources (i.e. benefits, signing of contract, direct deposit, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Direct to Ancillary Services for parking pass<\/li>\n<li>Order appropriate office and building keys \u2013 Physical Plant<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Start date<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Introduce to other area\/department members<\/li>\n<li>Tour of office (location of printers, copier, fax machine, incoming\/outgoing mail, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Provide new employee with:\n<ul>\n<li>Keys and FOB (electronic key) to access office and building<\/li>\n<li>Their contact info (phone #, fax #, email address, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>The link to the BU Telephone Directory and BU Community<\/li>\n<li>Advise on the length of breaks (lunch; morning\/afternoon breaks) and if there are set hours of work<\/li>\n<li>BU Faculty Handbook (if applicable) from Financial &amp; Registration Services<\/li>\n<li>A \u201cWelcome Package\u201d of useful information from your area<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>First week in role<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Send out a campus wide email introducing and welcoming new employee in your area.<\/li>\n<li>Tour of campus; introduce to key contacts<\/li>\n<li>Train new employee on how to:\n<ul>\n<li>complete any forms used on a regular basis<\/li>\n<li>use fax machine, copier, printers, etc. (may seem basic but some machines are more complex than others)<\/li>\n<li>navigate any programs\/software unique to your area<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Encourage new employee to explore the BU website \u2013 familiarize self with information<\/li>\n<li>May want to highlight key areas relevant for their role (i.e. their Union\u2019s collective agreement, employee benefits, institutional and department specific policies and procedures)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following are suggestions for both academic and administrative support positions and all suggestions may not be applicable.
