It is a place for students, staff and community.\u00a0 Initial events and conversations are a starting place that will help shape the Teachings House vision &#8211; inviting, including and involving many voices. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8211; Cree Knowledge Keeper, Susie McPherson-Derendy<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Bringing Community Together.<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/news\/2021\/04\/29\/brandon-university-launches-teaching-house-to-share-indigenous-knowledge\/\">BU Teachings House<\/a> brings community together to learn from one another, with initial teachings and circles led by local Indigenous Knowledge Keepers and Elders.<\/p>\n<p>With different topics and teachings each month, members of the campus and broader community are invited to gather, listen and share.<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>ALL ARE WELCOME!<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"flex-row \" data-column-group=\"1\">\n<div class=\"new-column-box  full count-1\">\n<h2><strong>BU Teachings House &#8211; Upcoming Gatherings<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong><em>March 2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Spring Equinox: Marking the Change of Seasons<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Friday, March 20 @ 11:30 am &#8211; 1:00 pm<\/p>\n<p>He Oyate Tawapi Ceremony Room &#8211; Room 141, Health Studies Building (Brandon University)<\/p>\n<p>As always, all are invited to attend to gather and share a teaching or tradition.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by the Indigenous Peoples Centre. Refreshments are provided.<\/p>\n<\/div><!-- .new-column-box -->\n<\/div><!-- .flex-row -->\n<h4><strong>A welcoming space to share and learn.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Inspired by the works of Indigenous scholars Verna Kirkness and Ray Barnhardt and discussions with local Knowledge Keepers and Elders, we will meet in a way that reflects the 4 Rs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Respect<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; For the land we gather on and lessons it offers. For the teachings and traditions shared by Indigenous Knowledge Keepers and Elders. For the stories shared by all in attendance &#8211; both Indigenous and non-Indigenous guests.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Relevance<\/strong> <\/em>&#8211; We reflect on the stories and personal experiences that are shared and consider how they relate to our own. In doing so, we build on and expand understanding of ourselves in relation to those around us and the world we live in.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Responsibility<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; We create and contribute to a space that honours Indigenous knowledges and cultures, celebrates the voices of young people, and brings people with diverse backgrounds and experiences together.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Reciprocity<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; We listen to and learn from the knowledge, stories and experiences of others, while also offering our own (give and take).
