Assist with soil and sediment sample preparation (including grinding, sieving, and weighing) and analysis (including grain size, organic matter, and spectral reflectance measurements). Data entry, summarizing and reporting. Other related duties as assigned.


The goal of this project is to investigate the impact of major geomorphic features (e.g., Manitoba Escarpment) and land use (e.g., agricultural activities) on water quality in Manitoba, particularly Lake Winnipeg. The proposed study will focus on identifying and comparing the sources of sediment within two distinctive watersheds within southern Manitoba using sediment fingerprinting (i.e, sediment source tracing).


This is an excellent opportunity for a student to acquire advanced training in soil science and geomorphology research.


The ideal candidate will have:

  •       A background in physical geography or other Earth science discipline
  •       Lab experience
  •       Strong organizational skills
  •       Experience with MS Excel, R, or other suitable software
  •       Strong math and writing skills
