Based in the CFI Palaeoecology microscopy suite in G14 in the Brodie Building, and the research lab BB 3-24A. Must be available at irregular intervals to accommodate the schedules of lab users during the work-week (Monday-Friday) during normal office hours.
Weekly: basic cleaning of lenses & stages as needed, ensuring work area is kept clear; managing bookings of microscopes for users; other related duties as assigned.
As needed: liaise with Olympus microscope support for microscope maintenance and repairs; provide basic instruction to new users in the use of the BX51 microscope.
he position is only open to current students enrolled in a graduate program at Brandon University.
Minimum qualification is a 4-year BSc in biology, geography, geology, palynology, or paleobiology and an additional 1-2 years of graduate training involving using microscopes to identify and count fossil pollen or other plant microfossils.
The position requires prior experience using the Olympus BX series microscopes and Olympus microscope image software used in the identification and counting of fossil pollen or plant microfossils in dinosaur remains
