Dr. Rachel Herron (Brandon University) and Dr. Mark Skinner (Trent University, Ontario, Canada) are leading a national study of the potential of arts-based interventions to improve the social opportunities and health of people with dementia in rural Canada. The four-year project is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Alzheimer Society of Canada. In partnership with Canada’s National Ballet School, the project will explore the experiences, effectiveness and expansion of an innovative program in terms of meaningfully engaging people living with dementia and their carers in rural regions.


This is an excellent opportunity for students to acquire advanced research training in interdisciplinary community-based research.


• Must be student (enrolled in a graduate program preferred) with GPA of 3.70 or higher
• Must have background in social sciences and/or health studies
• Must have experience in qualitative research methods
• Must have an interest in working with older people in rural communities
• Must have strong interpersonal skills
