Script Writer Opportunity on an Anti-Racism Film Project – Faculty of Education

Brandon University’s Centre for Aboriginal and Rural Education Studies (BU CARES) is seeking a skilled and experienced script writer to contribute to an ongoing anti-racism project. This project, funded by Canada Heritage, aims to create impactful films addressing critical issues related to racism and marginalization. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in co-developing the script for the fifth film in this series, which focuses on the negative effects of neutrality in the face of racism and experiences of individuals who navigate racism while being perceived as white-passing.

As an experienced, independent script writer, it is preferred that you have a background or lived experience related to the themes addressed in the film (e.g., racism, racial identity). Candidates should have strong understanding of narrative storytelling and ability to craft engaging and impactful scripts. The successful candidate should have excellent communication and collaboration skills, demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, commitment to cultural sensitivity, anti-racism principles, and ethical representation in storytelling. Preference will be given to those with familiarity with research methodologies and the ability to translate data and research findings into narrative form.

Compensation: $1,000 gross payment as set out in the personal services contract concluding by September 23, 2024.
