{"id":15,"date":"2010-07-26T21:41:17","date_gmt":"2010-07-27T02:41:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/graduate-studies\/graduate-level-programs-department-of-graduate-studies-and-field-research\/"},"modified":"2026-09-11T08:40:00","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T13:40:00","slug":"graduate-level-programs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/master-education\/graduate-level-programs\/","title":{"rendered":"Master of Education Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>36 credit hour Master of Education Degree<\/h2>\n<p>Students entering the Master of Education degree have the following options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/master-education\/graduate-level-programs\/course-route\/\"><strong>Course route<\/strong><\/a> &#8211;\u00a0Students complete 36 credit hours of course work in the course route.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/master-education\/graduate-level-programs\/thesis-route\/\"><strong>Thesis route<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; Students complete 27 credit hours of course work and a 9 credit hour thesis in the thesis route. \u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Note:<\/span>\u00a0Once 15 credit hours (including the 2 core courses: 07.752 &amp; 07.714) have been successfully completed, the student, in consultation with the department chair, may submit an application to move forward into the Thesis route for the Master of Education program, following the procedures outlined in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/master-education\/files\/2024\/02\/M.Ed_.-Thesis-Protocol_27OCT2023.pdf\">M.Ed. The Inclusive Education specialization leads to the Inclusive Education Certificate, and the Guidance &amp; Counselling specialization leads to the School Counsellor Certificate.<\/p>\n<p>Admission to these programs is competitive. Each year,\u00a0the\u00a0department\u00a0receives\u00a0significantly more qualified applications than\u00a0it\u00a0can\u00a0accept.\u00a0Consequently, meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Applicants are evaluated through a competitive selection process using the program&#8217;s established admission criteria, and offers are extended to those whose applications are the strongest\u00a0relative\u00a0to the available number of spaces.\u00a0The department\u00a0recognizes\u00a0the\u00a0considerable time and effort invested in preparing an application and\u00a0sincerely\u00a0appreciates\u00a0the interest of all applicants in our programs.<\/p>\n<p>To maximize opportunities for admission, applicants are encouraged to\u00a0indicate\u00a0first, second, and third programs of choice in the Master of Education program.<\/p>\n<h2>24 credit hour Master of Education Degree (2nd M.Ed.):<\/h2>\n<p>Students who have successfully conferred their first 36 credit hour Master of Education degree <strong>from Brandon University<\/strong> may apply online for an additional Master of Education degree, consisting of 24 hours in another specialization for a second Master of Education degree.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>36 credit hour Master of Education Degree Students entering the Master of Education degree have the following options: Course route &#8211;\u00a0Students complete 36 credit hours of course work in the course route.
