Avenues: Exploring Band and Jazz Methods 2019
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, August 19-21, 2019
Avenues: Exploring Band and Jazz Methods is a professional development opportunity designed to review, stimulate, and explore instrumental music education. This year’s workshop includes extended opportunities for gesture and movement, score study, and leadership. Participants are invited to a two or three-day registration option.
Avenue – a way of access, a channel for pursuing a desired object
The summer workshop, now in its fifteenth year, offers music educators the chance to gather, communicate, and collaborate at Brandon University. In addition to presentations and round-table discussions, the two days include active participation, conducting activities, personalized instruction, and informal gatherings.
Workshops provide opportunities to develop band and jazz rehearsal techniques, conducting skills, instrument techniques, jazz pedagogy, repertoire selection and preparation, instructional warm-ups, and improvisation. Avenues participants are asked to bring along an instrument and a conducting baton.
We invite you to join us in August for three days of practical, motivational, and provocative sessions to begin your school year.
Warm regards,
Greg Gatien and Wendy McCallum

“I always leave Avenues feeling like professional development was a rewarding way to spend two days of my summer vacation. This conference is one of the key things that helps me feel refreshed and recharged going back into September.” Graydon Cramer
