Womens Volleyball announce two more Alberta recruits

BRANDON, MB – Working their connections in Alberta, the Bobcat Women’s volleyball team is proud to announce the commitments of Tessa Geurts from Infansil, AB and Keely Stang from Camrose, AB.

Geurts is a six-foot left side with great ball control that comes to Brandon by way of Mount Royal College in Calgary.

“It is hoped that Tessa will come in and make an impact with the team right away,” says Bobcats head coach, Lee Carter. “We feel that Tessa will fill that defensive specialist spot that Nicole Clemon’s filled so well last year. Having two players battle for a position is always a good thing. Tessa will also get lots of opportunities to improve her game in the front court.”

Keely Stang is another six-foot athlete that most recently played for New Norway High School in Camrose, Alberta. Stang first appeared on the BU radar two years ago, when Principal Pat McFeely, a good friend of Carter, alerted the Bobcats.

“She was physical enough to play in the CIS in Grade 10. It was just a waiting game to see which sport she would choose,” says Carter. Stang is a multisport athlete who has excelled at all sports, but has decided to focus on volleyball as she pursues a nursing degree at Brandon University.

“Keely is a leaper, with a powerful arm,” says Carter. “We expect great things from Keely over the next couple of seasons. With Teagan Hunter and Sara Grona entering their fourth year of eligibility and Nicole Ban in her fifth, it is hoped that these two athletes can progress in the next couple of years to a level that will keep the Bobcats at the top of the league.”
