BU’s Clean Air Policy begins
September 1, 2009
BRANDON, MB – Brandon University is instituting a new Clean Air policy that will ensure that all persons on campus have the right to breathe clean air.
“The well-being of our students and staff are of the upmost importance here at BU,” says Brandon University’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Deborah Poff. “This policy helps encourage healthy living along with adding to the ongoing campus beautification.”
The policy is set to take effect September 1 st of this year. In it are practices whereby five designated smoking areas have been created on campus. Also, the Brandon University Human Resources Office will be assisting students and employees in finding help for those that want to begin smoking cessation programs.
In addition to the designated smoking areas, the University has assigned “No Idle Zones” around buildings, entrances and air intake sources on campus. BU will post signs encouraging drivers to cooperate.
The policy will be enforced through the spirit of cooperation, mutual respect and understanding of all students, staff and visitors of Brandon University.
The only exception to the policy will be for the allowance of any Traditional Aboriginal spiritual or cultural practice ceremony.
