BRANDON, MB – The acronym AED may become a household name in the future, when it comes to saving lives.

Brandon University has received the latest Automated External Defibrillator which will be located in the lobby of the BU gymnasium.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada in partnership with the Boston Pizza Foundation have joined forces to bring to the publically accessible AED to the City of Brandon, and the BU campus.
The AED is becoming popular in public facilities such as schools, shopping malls, arenas and any public area that has large traffic numbers. In addition to the traditional CPR, the AED has been researched to significantly increase the chances of survival.

This past Tuesday, the entire Physical and Health Education Department received the Heartsaver AED training.

“It is fundamentally important to be updated with the latest research on saving lives,” says BU Athletic Director Kirk De Fazio.
