Brandon, MB — Brandon University’s Psychology, Math and Computer Science office assistant Brandy Robertson will be sitting on a jet plane next week en route for Gaborone, Botswana. There, she will undertake a four-month volunteer placement with the Botswanan chapter of World University Service of Canada (WUSC) as a Program Assistant with International Scholarship Management and Students Without Borders (SWB). She will be assisting a group of Batswanan students, who have received scholarships to attend Canadian universities and colleges this fall.

“I have worked with WUSC at Brandon University for the past six years. Thanks to the combined efforts of the students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni, and community members, Brandon University has sponsored a refugee student from a camp in Africa to come to our institution and receive a post-secondary education that he or she would otherwise be unlikely to receive,” said Robertson, who is also an English major. “WUSC’s sponsorship programs have become my passion and I cannot wait to engage myself in the work WUSC does on the other side of the world in Botswana. Go Siame (Goodbye) Brandon! Dumela (Hello) Gaborone!”

In addition to the suitcase with her personal requirements for the trip, Robertson is also bringing a suitcase full of supplies for WUSC-Botswana’s partner organizations, which include daycares, preschools and adolescent/youth programs. She will accept community donations until May 4. For details, please contact her at robertsonb@brandonu.ca.
