BRANDON, MB – Brandon Bobcats women’s volleyball head coach Lee Carter has rounded out his 2011-2012 recruiting class with a college transfer.

Alexis Loewen has committed to play for the Brandon University Bobcats starting this fall.

Loewen, a 6’0” middle from Winkler, Manitoba, has been playing for the Briercrest Clippers for the past two years where she led the ACAC (Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference) in blocks this past season. Loewen also led her team in kills and finished second in aces.

Loewen is also a grad of Garden Valley Collegiate and the Junior Wesmen and Big Sand club teams. Her experience at all levels makes her a good fit for head coach Lee Carter’s squad.

“Lexi has proven she is an elite level blocker at the ACAC level and I’m sure her skills will lead her to success at this level,” says Carter. “She’s a quality person that will add to our team’s character.”

The challenge of playing at an elite level is an opportunity Loewen welcomes.

“Playing CIS volleyball will be a higher caliber than I am used too, but I am definitely looking forward to it,” says Loewen. “I think the CIS and Canada West conference will push me harder and I will hopefully become a better player and bring something to Brandon University.”
