BRANDON, MB — The sixth annual Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival (CLCMF), under the artistic direction of concert pianist, Alexander Tselyakov, will run from Tuesday, August 23 to Sunday, August 28. This seven-concert Festival is an important part of Canada’s summer cultural calendar and in previous years, has entertained people of all ages.

Headlining the roster of top-notch guest artists is James Ehnes, whose international reputation precedes him and who makes his first appearance at the Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival.

The other talented musicians who are involved this year are Joyce Lai and Tomomi Brennan, violin; Ian Clarke, viola; Rafael Hoekman , cello; Naomi Forman, soprano; Joel Brennan, trumpet; Catherine Wood, clarinet; Alexander Tselyakov, Daniel Tselyakov and Kara Dixon, piano; Greg Gatien, saxophone; Michael Cain, jazz piano; Eric Platz, percussion; Crystal Tait, double bass; and host, Colette Simonot.

Some of the CLCMF’s highlights include the opening night offering — James Ehnes and Alexander Tselyakov in Recital — which is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, August 23. The two world-class musicians will showcase compositions for violin and piano that originate from Russia, Norway and Belgium. Another festival feature will be the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Franz Liszt, one of the greatest Romantic composer of the 19th century. The evening of Saturday, August 27, dubbed Salut d’amour, will be dedicated to this composer and his chamber, vocal and piano masterpieces. Along with wide-ranging and other appealing programming, this year’s edition will conclude with a jazz cruise aboard the Martese tour boat on Clear Lake.

All concerts will be held at the Onanole Community Centre, with the exception of the Jazz Cruise Concert (August 28, 8:30 p.m.) which will take place on “The Martese”, which starts off at the Marina in Clear Lake. All in all, this dynamic combination of artists and variety in programming will guarantee an exciting and pleasurable summer experience for all in attendance.
