Brandon, MB — Last month, in recognition of outstanding dedication to higher education and to community service as well as of leadership in social reform, Professor Emeritus Errol Black was inducted in the Order of the Buffalo Hunt. Premier Greg Selinger made the trip into Brandon for the occasion.

“I never paid that much attention to this kind of thing until I got a call from the Protocol Office. You immediately think of all kinds of people who are more deserving,” said Errol Black. “It was very humbling, not so much the award itself, but the comments made by some of my friends who were present.”

Professor Black taught Economics, Industrial Relations and Labour and Public Policy at Brandon University as well as penned countrless articles and co-edited several books, including “Building a Better World: An Introduction to Trade Unionism in Canada”. Also, Mr. Black served as a councilman for Brandon East from 1998 to 2010 and was an activist with the New Democratic Party.

The Order of the Buffalo Hunt is an honour bestowed by Manitoba premiers. It was founded in 1957 to recognize the outstanding and distinctive contributions of leaders in areas such as politics, business, sports and entertainment.
