BRANDON, MB – The Brandon Bobcats men’s basketball team will be hosting the first annual Holiday Hoops Classic, an event aimed at teaching local youth the basics of basketball.
The session will be held on December 18 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm in the BU Gymnasium and is aimed at kids in grades 1- 8.
“Our athletes have come from all over North America, and at some point been greatly influenced by a coach, mentor or volunteer that has given their time,” says head coach Gil Cheung. “This is a great opportunity for us to give back while promoting basketball and fitness, and at the same time it is for a good cause and at a great time of the year.”
Participants are asked to bring unused toys for the Brandon Christmas Cheer Registry. Monetary donations will also be accepted and go to the memorial fund set up for Dayanny Nunez Bonilla.
The primary focus of this session is to introduce the fundamentals of the game and to teach proper footwork, shooting mechanics, ball-handling, passing and spacing. The event promises to be fun as well as develop basketball skills in both an individual and team setting. Players will be introduced to basic agility and core training activities.
The clinic will be run by coach Cheung and members of the Bobcats basketball team. All participants will take home great Bobcat prizes, as well as prizes from various local sponsors.
