BRANDON, MB – The final month of Canada West competition is in the books for Brandon University Athletics, so a pair of awards are being handed out to deserving Bobcat athletes for their efforts in February.

SAM TUIVAI has been named the Tip Top Tailors Male Athlete of the Month for February. After arriving in Brandon last fall, the product of Auckland, New Zealand has made quite a splash in the Canada West conference, quickly ascending up the leader-boards in numerous stat categories.

The 6’4″ outside hitter led the Bobcats in a grueling three-match Canada West quarterfinal series in which Tuivai averaged 15 kills, six digs, over four blocks and 18 points per match, highlighted by a season-high 24 kills on February 19.

Tuivai concluded the Canada West regular season among the conference leaders in hitting percentage, kills per set, points per set and led the conference in service aces per set.

LARISSA VONKEMAN just wrapped up her second season as a Bobcat in spectacular fashion, earning Pantages on Park Female Athlete of the Month honours for February.

The Lethbridge, Alberta product ended the Canada West regular season with two of her finest performances in her young career. That weekend, Vonkeman was effective in all aspects of the game, notching 15 kills (converting on 43% percent of her swings), seven service aces, seven digs, 17 blocks and 27.5 points over the two matches.

Vonkeman started in 18 of the Bobcats 20 matches this year and led the team in blocks (53) and tied for the team lead in service aces (22).
