Teaching Seminar: Using Technology to Enhance Student Engagement

Dr. Jay WilsonOn August 30, 2012, Brandon University hosted its 4th Annual Teaching Enhancement Seminar.  This year’s event featured a keynote address by Dr. Jay Wilson, a faculty member in the Department of Curriculum Studies and Graduate Chair of the Educational Technology and Design program at the University of Saskatchewan.  Wilson has extensive practical experience in the areas of teaching and learning, innovative course delivery, and technology enhanced instruction and was awarded the 2012 Desire2Learn Innovation Award from the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.

Dr. Wilson’s address, entitled “Using Technology to Enhance Student Engagement,” focused on expanding asynchronous delivery options to meet the diverse learning needs of our students and fostering active student engagement through learning technologies.  More than forty-five Brandon University faculty members attended this informative and engaging presentation, and participated in the seminar by sharing tips, techniques, and favourite technological methods for the classroom.

“This seminar provided a wonderful start to a new academic year,” said Dr. W. Dean Care, Acting Vice-President (Academic & Provost).  “Dr. Wilson’s presentation focused on a key priority for the University – student engagement leading to student success.”
