The Sun questioned 460 students graduating this year from Brandon’s three high schools: Vincent Massey, Neelin and Crocus Plains. Of the 269 respondents, more than one in four plans on attending Brandon University, the most popular choice of all options including education, work or travel.

“We are pleased to be the educational institution of choice for Brandon students,” says BU President and Vice-Chancellor Deborah Poff. “Small class sizes remain a popular reason why students select BU over other universities. At BU, they receive a personalized education unique in Canada.”

BU was chosen by 26.5% of the graduating respondents as their next educational stop, compared to larger Winnipeg based post-secondary institutions: 17.8% for University of Manitoba, 5.5% for University of Winnipeg and less than 5% for Red River College. Brandon-based Assiniboine Community College garnered nearly 12%.

In addition to the 78% who plan on continuing their education, the Sun reported that travel and work are the other main options being pursued by respondents.

“We educate our students so that they can make a meaningful difference as engaged citizens and leaders,” says Dr. Poff, “continually working to enhance the student experience through new services, supports, and recruitment and enrollment. We look forward to meeting new students again this fall.”
