Lois Fowler and her Brandon Curling Club team are world senior champions after beating Italy 6-2 in the final.
Fowler, along with third Maureen Bonar, second Cathy Gauthier and lead Allyson Stewart won the title Saturday at the championship game in Sochi, Russia.
The Canadians opened with two points in the first end and then followed that up with a further two point score in the third end, according to a World Senior Curling Championship release.
They went into the halfway break 4-2 up and, try as they did, the Italians could not get onto the scoreboard in the second half of the game and conceded defeat before the eighth end was completed.
After the game, Canada’s skip Lois Fowler said: "We’re absolutely, completely thrilled to come out on top of this event. We’re all absolutely elated. We thought we’d played well all week and we were confident we could do it but we knew we’d have to play well."
Meanwhile, history-making Italian skip Simpson said: "This is well and truly beyond our expectations. The team’s been absolutely great and I’m so proud of them, they played so well, we’re really, really happy. This was the kind of game that could have gone 10-1 or more than that, and we managed to hold them." This marks the 10th women’s world seniors won by Canada.
