Brandon University ready to mark Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness Week with #Ask4it campaign

February 8, 2016

A series of cheeky, risqué posters are reminding Brandon University (BU) students that consent is sexy ahead of Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness Week.

The week will be celebrated Feb. 8–14 with events on campus and in the community, as well as online using the hashtag #Ask4it

“It’s fun, it’s high-energy, and it’s enthusiastic — just like consensual sex should be,” said Corinne Mason, coordinator of the Gender and Women’s Studies program at BU as well as chair of the Yes Means Yes! committee on campus that is organizing the week’s events.

“This week will be great for students to get as hands on as possible with sexual and reproductive health without getting ‘hands on’,” said Nick Brown, Interim President of the Brandon University Students’ Union.

Along with a few events that are targeted at students specifically, there are several that are open to the public. They include a conversation with Elder Frank Tacan about masculinity and cultures of consent on Monday, a film screening and discussion about men’s engagement, also on Monday, and a workshop about having hot consensual sex, on Tuesday.

Later in the week, students will participate in a scavenger hunt around the city for sexual and reproductive health resources, in a workshop on sexual health and pleasure for LGBTTQ* people and their allies, and be treated to a sex toy extravaganza in the student pub.

The week’s events will end with the “It’s a Wrap” social on Friday night.

Brandon Mayor Rick Chrest has also officially proclaimed the dates as “Only Yes Means Yes! Week” in the city.
