BU quick to respond to RESPECT Challenge

This article is over 7 years old.

  • The RESPECT Challenge is well underway with more than 60 people having accessed the program and 31 certified.
  • Watch for this week’s Top 3 to be announced in Friday’s This Week @ BU.

Here are some frequently asked questions we have heard regarding the RESPECT campaign and challenge, with the biggest one being:

UBelong Respect Pass it Along logoQ: It says it is a 90 minute self-paced program…what if I don’t have 90 minutes in my day to complete this?

A: Good news, the self-paced program is 90 minutes in total but you can do as much or as little as your workday/work week allows.  There are a number of modules so you can do a few, pause or stop the program, and resume when you have a few extra minutes. We encourage you to try to complete it in the week, though, to help your unit/faculty make the Top 3!

Q: What is this challenge all about?

A: Based on the feedback received from the 2014 Guarding Minds @ Work survey, respect and civility was identified as a priority on campus.  The Respect in the Workplace 90-minute, online program was identified as a tool to help develop basic awareness around harassment, personal harassment, and discrimination in the workplace.  To promote participation and completion of the program, the Workplace Wellness Task Force thought a challenge was a good way to get everyone talking about and thinking about respect and what it means in the workplace.

Q: What do we do with this thermometer?

A: From the Guarding Minds @ Work survey, work units/departments/faculties were grouped so that feedback from everyone across campus could be collected and organized.  With that, the RESPECT campaign is asking those same groups to take part in the self-paced Respect in the Workplace program.  Throughout the challenge, we will be able to watch the competition heat up on these thermometers with our U Belong stickers.

Each week, you will receive an email letting you know the Top 3 areas as well as how your group has done participation-wise.  The goal is to have 100% participation in your area.  If your area hits the Top 3, you will earn bragging rights for that week, along with official U-Belong recognition and great prizes for those in your area who have completed it!

Q: How long is the challenge?

A: The challenge ends on June 30, 2016.  Completion of the program during this time counts toward the standing of your team in the challenge, however, the program will be available to faculty and staff following the challenge.

Q: Who is expected to do this program?

A: Everyone!  Faculty, staff, research assistants—anyone who works at BU is asked to complete it.  Everyone has a vested interest in ensuring respect in the workplace.

Q:  How do I access the program?

A: Here is the link:  brandonuniversity.respectgroupinc.com.

Q: What if I can’t remember the username or password that I created for my profile?

A: On the Respect in the Workplace homepage, under the Log In button, is a link to recover your username or password.
