The Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art and The Brandon University (BU) Fine Arts Student Association are pleased to host Nostalgica, a thesis exhibition by international fine arts student Lori Ore.
Nostalgica is about Ore’s personal experience with homesickness since she’s moved to Brandon from Miami, Fla.
Ore explores the nature of nostalgia through portraiture, installation and video art. Her painterly portraits reflect her family and friends from her hometown. Through video art Ore uses a synchronization of video and sound to reveal the daydreaming of the environment she longs for on a daily basis. She also demonstrates her coping with homesickness by photographing the genuine people she has grown close to in the past five years here in Brandon.
Nostalgica is about Ore’s romance with nostalgia and how homesickness has been the driving force behind her art-making. It’s about interacting with the work and longing for a place, person, or a different time in our life.
Through her work Ore hopes to create a space where one can meditate on the notion of homesickness.
An opening reception will be held at the Sutherland Gallery on Tuesday, March 14 from 7 – 9 p.m. The Sutherland Gallery at BU is located at 2021 Victoria Ave. The gallery is open daily from 2 – 6 p.m.
