BRANDON – Raise your voices and come together, anyone who has sung as part of the Brandon Conservatory Chorale: There’s a special reunion planned this spring for all members, past and present, to honour founding director Elizabeth Grant.

“The Conservatory Chorale is one of Brandon’s gems, and it is absolutely inseparable from Liz Grant, who has poured so much heart and devotion into it over the decades,” said Heidi Howarth, who is organizing the reunion.

“It will be a real thrill to bring so many former choristers back for a huge reunion and celebration of her influence on all of us.”

Grant originally founded the Brandon Conservatory Chorale in 1981 as a project for her Master’s in Music degree. Since then, it has grown from just 14 members to peak at well over 100 choristers, and has been subdivided into various youth choirs, with singers ranging in age from 5-18, both male and female.  The Chorale has also added an adult choir, Bel Canto, in the past five years.

“Thousands and thousands of us have been a part of Chorale over the years, and we are like a big family under Liz Grant’s direction,” Howarth said. “I can’t wait to get us together for a massive group show!”

Along with the reunion, returning Chorale members are invited to a “Spring Sing” concert, with alumni joining the present choirs to perform favourites.

The reunion and concert are scheduled for Saturday, April 28 at 1:30 p.m. and will be held in the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium.

The Brandon Conservatory Chorale is a program of Brandon University’s Eckhardt-Gramatte Conservatory of Music and is recognized as one of Canada’s leading youth choirs. The Conservatory Chorale provides choral training for singers ages five and up, with students divided into three performing groups: the Apprentice Choir for boys and girls in Kindergarten to Grade 3; the Concert Choir for boys and girls, Grades 4 and up; and the Chamber Choir for treble singers up to Grade 12.  Auditions are held each year for new and returning students.  The choirs have performed extensively both nationally and internationally and have consistently won acclaim at all levels.  The Chamber Choir, comprised of the most experienced and disciplined singers, has had opportunity to perform as a major touring group throughout Canada, The United States, Great Britain, France and Italy.
