BRANDON – The 2017-18 season is officially in the books for the Brandon University Bobcats following Monday night's year-end awards banquet.

Mary Thomson and Australian import Elliott Viles were named BU's best athletes to conclude Monday's ceremony at the Victoria Inn Imperial Ballroom.
Thomson collected her first outstanding female athlete award after concluding her Bobcat career this past February. A fitting end considering her first steps were taken in the Henry Champ Gym as a baby.
"It's truly an honour, especially considering the incredible women that have won this award before me," says Thomson. "I remember when Lee took us to the HLC when construction was just finished and that feeling of seeing the big, empty gym. I knew that I wanted to create so many memories in there and that's exactly what happened. I'm just so happy and thankful for all of my time in Bobcat Nation."
Viles on the other hand becomes the youngest recipient of the R.J. McCarthy Award since the inception of the BU men's volleyball team following his all-Canadian campaign.
"It's an honour and a bit of a shock because I wasn't expecting it all," says Viles. "With
Roy Ching winning it last year and so many other big names in the Bobcat program having won this award in the past makes it such an honour."
Eighteen team awards were presented on Monday as well as BU's student-service awards and other major awards including the illustrious H.S. Perdue Award going to Lauren Anderson and the Jim Casey Award being bestowed upon Mikee Dosado.
