Brandon University appoints Dr. Lisa Robson as Acting Dean of Arts

A scholar with deep roots at Brandon University has been selected to lead the Faculty of Arts as Acting Dean. Dr. Lisa Robson will begin June 1 and will hold the position through 2019–20 while the University conducts a thorough search for a new permanent Dean of Arts.

Dr. Robson is currently an Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing at BU and also the coordinator of the Gender & Women’s Studies program. She has previously served several years as Chair of English and Creative Writing.

“This is an important time for the Faculty of Arts, as we work towards securing a new, permanent dean,” Dr. Robson said. “As Acting Dean, I want to do all I can to foster an environment where faculty and students have the support and space to excel in their areas of expertise and interest.”

She said that academic excellence for both students and faculty would continue to be a high priority for the Faculty of Arts.

“The Faculty of Arts is full of strong, effective, bold scholars who teach, do research, and serve the community — both academic and general — with energy and skill,” she said. “Our student population is growing, and those students who come through the Arts Faculty deserve the best academic experience we can offer.”

As well as celebrating 20 years since joining BU in her current role, Dr. Robson also holds a Bachelor’s degree with a major in English from Brandon University. She also has a Master’s and a PhD in English from the University of Saskatchewan.

Currently, she teaches courses in 19-century British literature, in particular the Romantic Period and the Victorian Period, as well as courses in women’s literature.

“I am very pleased to offer my hearty congratulations to Dr. Robson for her appointment,” said Dr. Steve Robinson, BU’s Vice-President (Academic & Provost). “She is a dedicated and capable academic, and the Faculty of Arts will be well-served with her as Acting Dean.”
