Brandon University’s historians are front-and-centre as Manitoba marks 100 years since the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike.
Brandon University History Professor Jim Naylor is the chair of the committee organizing the Winnipeg General Strike Centenary Conference (WGSCC) this week at the University of Winnipeg, while BU Associate Professor Rhonda Hinther is also a member of the committee.
This week, Hinther and Naylor both talked with media about the WGSCC, which runs until Saturday. A story about the conference can be found in the Winnipeg Sun.
The Globe and Mail has also taken a look back at the strike and its enduring impact on Winnipeg in an article that draws insight from the book “When the State Trembled,” published in 2010 by BU English and Creative Writing Professor Reinhold Kramer and Archivist Emeritus Tom Mitchell.
CTV Winnipeg has also collected a list of resources and events where people can learn about the Winnipeg General Strike, which took place from May 15 to June 25, 1919.
