BRANDON – There is no better way to stay active, keep fit, and maintain wellness than by taking advantage of the many affordable options available at BU’s Health Living Centre. And they’re even easier to get started during a free Open House this week.
“With several new classes this year, a whole new lunch time program, and a new personal trainer, we have a flexible lineup that’ll really get your heart racing,” quipped Sara Grona, HLC’s Facility Coordinator.
The new fitness classes are available three mornings a week, with multiple convenient drop-in times available. You can choose from “Forever in Motion, “Walking with Weights”, “Low Impact and Sculpt”, “Lunch Time Express”, “After Work Mixer” or try them all.
“We’re calling this ‘Fit 4 Life’ and our instructor will lead you through bodyweight, light weight, and circuit exercises that will increase your functional fitness and help you maintain your quality of life,” Grona said.
“It is perfect for people who are young at heart and want to keep up their strength and energy levels.”
These add to the full slate of recreational programming — everything from badminton to pickleball — as well as the ever-popular walking track and the personal training option.
“This year we have expanded our personal training, and there’s no better way to stay active than to have a program that tailored personally for your needs and your abilities,” Grona said. “Come on down and check out the full service that we provide.”
Making it even easier to try, the HLC is opening its doors for a free Open House week, until Sunday, Sept. 15. Anyone can drop in for a look around, to sample the fitness centre, the open gymnasium times, or the walking track, and to try out the new classes.
Flexible memberships are available on yearly, monthly or four-month seasonal basis, with discounts for seniors, youth and young adults, and for BU alumni. But for the ultimate in flexibility, there’s no commitment — it’s easy to drop in on a class or to purchase either a 10- or 20-visit punch card that allows full access to the facility on your schedule.
The Healthy Living Centre is conveniently located at the corner of 20th Street and Louise Avenue, with ample free parking for members.
