Brandon University mourns the passing of three retirees

The Brandon University community is saddened to learn of the recent passing of three retirees. The flag has been lowered to half-mast and will remain lowered for two days in their honour.

The deceased are retired housing cleaner Doreen (Betty) Rodenbush, and retired professors Guy Landry and Alan Ehnes.

Rodenbush started at Brandon University in 1984, and worked as a cleaner in housing until her retirement in 1992. Funeral arrangements are pending. https://memorieschapel.com/book-of-memories/3975326/Rodenbush-Betty/obituary.php

Landry started at Brandon University in the fall of 1968. He resigned in 1981 and returned two years later, staying until his retirement as an Assistant Professor in Economics in 2007. A memorial service is planned for spring.

Ehnes moved to Brandon in 1973 to join the faculty of the School of Music, where he taught trumpet. He retired in 2010 as Applied Department Chair and Associate Professor of Trumpet. His son James was awarded a BU Honorary Doctorate in 2004.

While a member of the BU faculty, Ehnes also performed as an extra player with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, served on the faulty of the International Music Camp, and adjudicated at festivals across Western Canada. He also collaborated on research studies exploring the neurophysiological response of music in the brain.

“I was so lucky to have Alan as a dear friend over the years,” said BU Dean of Music Greg Gatien. “Not only was he an exemplary teacher to so many accomplished students, but he was also a generous mentor to so many of his junior colleagues, including me. Our thoughts are with his extraordinary family.”

A service for Ehnes at the School of Music is planned for the spring.
