Bobcat fans will be fueling up for another great season next weekend, with a Home Opener Tailgate Party at the Healthy Living Centre.
“Come on out and have some pre-game fun and excitement and food and refreshments as you get ready to cheer on the Bobcats ahead of their volleyball home opener,” said HLC Coordinator Sara Grona. “This is a great chance to meet up with friends, classmates, or fellow co-workers and kick off the weekend before heading into the gym for some great Bobcat action.”
The tailgate menu includes BBQ ribs, hamburgers, veggie burgers and hot dogs, with coleslaw, potato salad, Caesar salad and house-fresh kettle chips as sides. Food is being catered by BU’s refreshed new Harvest Hall. Drinks will be served by the Healthy Living Centre.
The Home Opener Tailgate Party is new this year and is open to everyone as a part of BU’s Homecoming weekend, which includes a Bobcat volleyball reunion and Wall of Fame induction ceremony.
“Homecoming is a unique opportunity to get together and celebrate Brandon University’s connections with the community,” said Carla Eisler, BU’s Director of Advancement and Alumni Affairs. “We’re thrilled to include the Bobcat volleyball home opener and reunion, and there’s plenty going on all weekend, from a School of Music concert to a full-of-fun Family Day on Saturday, and an inspiring public keynote with War Child Canada founder Dr. Samantha Nutt.”

Currently, the weather forecast looks like the last of the snow will be melted, and Friday will be warm. The tailgate party is planned for the south-side parking lot of the HLC, with a tent in the adjacent soccer pitch. Should the weather not cooperate, backup plans are in place for an indoor tailgate. Either way, fans should arrive at the front (north) doors of the HLC for admission to the tailgate.
Gates open at 4:30 p.m. for the after-class and after-work crowds, and the tailgate will run until about 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are available at the front desk of the Healthy Living Centre or online at bobcats.tixit.ca. Tickets are $20, which includes your game ticket, meal and one refreshment (alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage). Students and season-ticket holder tickets are $15, which includes meal and a refreshment. Additional food and drink are also available for purchase.
The Bobcats, coming off a league championship and a U SPORTS national silver medal, take on the Thompson Rivers WolfPack for their season opener at home. Women take to the court at 6 p.m., with men scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
Last season, the Bobcat men’s team won the league championship and a U SPORTS national silver medal after finishing in first-place in the regular season at 20-and-2. On the women’s side, BU had a record of 5-and-19.
This home opener is expected to be packed, and fans should get their tickets early to secure a seat.
As part of Homecoming Weekend, fans at the home opener are encouraged to wear Bobcat gear both new or old at the games.
