Brandon University to offer walk-in Covid vaccines during first week of classes

This article is over 2 years old.

Walk-in vaccination will be available to students, faculty and staff during the first week back for Brandon University’s Fall Term.

The partnership with Prairie Mountain Health will see Pfizer and Moderna vaccinations offered in Harvest Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 7 (from 9–11 a.m.), Wednesday, Sept. 8 (from 1–3 p.m.), and Thursday, Sept. 9 (from 9–11 a.m.).

Both first and second doses are available, and the clinic is open to everyone who is eligible to receive the vaccines. Anyone born on or before Dec. 31, 2009, is eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine. Anyone 18 years or older is eligible to receive either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

Employees of Brandon University can use paid time to attend Covid-19 vaccine appointments and can draw on sick time or other balances to cover side effects. Professors and instructors are encouraged to be flexible with students who are receiving a vaccine or experiencing side effects.

Brandon University is developing a vaccine policy that will support our transition to being a fully vaccinated campus. You should get fully vaccinated as soon as you are able. Vaccines are safe, effective, and are the fastest way for us all to get to a post-pandemic world that is as normal as possible.

Brandon University continues to require masks be worn indoors at all times on campus, unless you are alone in a private space like your office or residence room. Masks can also be removed briefly if you are actively eating or drinking.

To help keep everyone safe, BU is also limiting class sizes on campus, generally to 25 students or fewer. Campus enhancements like increased cleaning and sanitization stations, and enhanced ventilation, when coupled with mask wearing and physical distancing, provide multiple layers of defense against Covid-19 transmission. Vaccination adds yet another level of protection, while also helping protect you from the most serious outcomes.

To support vaccination, Brandon University is also giving away more than $10,000 in prizes. Get vaccinated at this clinic, and enter at BrandonU.ca/Winning-Shot.

VACCINATION INFORMATION

Both mRNA vaccines are safe, effective, and interchangeable. You do not need to wait for the same dose for your second shot. To get your second shot, you will need to know when you received your first dose of Covid-19 vaccine and the type of vaccine you received. If you do not recall this information and you have a Manitoba Health card, you can access the information online at sharedhealthmb.ca/covid19/test-results. If your immunization record is incomplete or incorrect, or if you received a first dose outside of Manitoba, fill in this e-form to submit your information.

You will need to fill out a consent form for your first and second dose. This will ensure that any changes in your health status can be reviewed before your second dose, that providers will have the most up-to-date information in case you are getting a different vaccine, and that health professionals can review if you had an allergic reaction to a previous dose of the vaccine. Consent forms will be available at the clinics, however filling out the form in advance will also make it faster for you to get your vaccine. Click here to fill out and print the consent forms.
