BU Holiday Luncheon raises $1,000 for Christmas Cheer

This article is over 2 years old.

The annual Brandon University Holiday Luncheon was held this week — in virtual fashion, to keep it as safe as possible. Thanks to the hard work and talent of the Food Services crew, as well as to some web magic from Web and IT folks, members of the BU community were able to pre-order their choice of holiday luncheon meal, pick it up during specific time slots, and enjoy in small groups with the colleagues and friends.

While it’s not yet possible to come together for the traditional group buffet and event, it was important to bring the campus together as much as possible this year, especially after last year’s Holiday Luncheon could not be held at all.

Some fundraising elements, like the 50/50 and Basket Raffle, were suspended or modified this year, but the Holiday Luncheon was able to raise $1,000 for the Brandon and Westman Christmas Cheer, as well as bring in non-perishable items for the BUSU Food Bank.

The virtual event also welcomed iconic Canadian entertainer Tom Jackson, who live-streamed music and inspirational storytelling to Brandon University.

Brandon University President David Docherty donned a blue Santa hat for the Tom Jackson livestream performance.
