Brandon Chamber Players bring live music back to BU

February 4, 2022

Brandon University (BU) musicians will take centre-stage when the Brandon Chamber Players (BCP) bring live music back to the Lorne Watson Recital Hall this month.

The featured performers will all be BU School of Music faculty members or Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory of Music instructors when BCP holds its Sing & Strum concert on Saturday, Feb. 12. There will be two performances, beginning at 3 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.

After cancelling the 2020-2021 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, BCP is thrilled to return to the stage with a full season of exciting concerts.

“The loss of live music during the pandemic has been devastating for musicians and audiences alike, in Brandon and around the world,” said BCP President Nancy Hennen, who is a Sessional Instructor in the School of Music and also teaches at the Conservatory. “We are grateful to be able to welcome listeners to the Lorne Watson Recital Hall once again. BCP is committed to the Westman community and looks forward to contributing to the revitalization of our local music scene.”

The performance features a full line-up of local musicians: Catherine Wood, clarinet; Nancy Hennen, flute; KerryDuWors, violin; Josias Sanchez, violin; Robert Richardson Jr., viola; and Leanne Zacharias, cello.

“The inspiration for this concert was the joyful return of live music, and we chose the pieces and people with this idea in mind,” said Catherine Wood, who is the BCP Artistic Director as well as a BU Professor of Music and Conservatory instructor. “BCP is committed to presenting high quality chamber music concerts that present new and well-known music, and we are working towards greater inclusivity in our programming to represent a variety of musical styles. We are excited to share this season’s opening concert that celebrates music for winds and strings. We hope you discover some new favourite pieces or composers while also enjoying some familiar music — all performed by Brandon musicians!”

To accommodate social distancing guidelines, concerts will operate at a significantly reduced capacity. All attendees must provide proof of vaccination and ID at the door, and wear masks at all times. Tickets must be reserved in advance and are available by contacting the Brandon Chamber Players through their website or by calling the School of Music office at 204-727-9631. Seating is extremely limited, so it is recommended you reserve tickets well in advance. Concertgoers with reservations can pay at the door. General admission is $40, and $20 for students.
