Brandon Chamber Players Announce Concert No. 3

Brandon Chamber Players are pleased to continue celebrating the return to live music with their third concert of the 2021-22 season! Ricefall features pianist Everett Hopfner and local student musicians performing incredible works by contemporary composers.

The event will take place on Sunday, May 1, 2022, with performances at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Brandon University’s (BU’s) Kinsmen Rehearsal Hall.

Everett Hopfner, director of the Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory of Music, will perform alongside students from the conservatory and Brandon University’s School of Music in an evening of calming and meditative contemporary works. The program is centred around two substantial works by Michael Pisaro-Liu, a member of the Wandelweiser Group of composers who explore the “the fruitful relationship between sound and the absence of sound.” Other composers to be featured include Phyllis Chen, and Amy Williams.

“My vision for this concert is to create a safe, welcoming space as we return to live performance this season: performers and audience mingled together, experiencing calming, serene, inviting sounds and taking an opportunity to listen and breathe together. I’ve been experiencing the heartache, stress and anxiety of the pandemic and the troubling news cycle like everyone else, so it seemed fitting to program ricefall – a soothing rainy soundscape – as a kind of ritual for peace and reflection. I am absolutely thrilled to invite fifteen outstanding students from the Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory of Music to participate in this concert. They have been working so diligently throughout the pandemic, without many opportunities to share their achievements with an audience. I’m very grateful to the Brandon Chamber Players for giving them this chance to shine.”
