PENT celebrates graduates

July 15, 2022

Brandon University (BU) celebrated the accomplishments of its PENT graduates on Friday evening.

PENT is a community-based teacher education program serving students mainly from remote and rural communities. Students in PENT work in their community schools from September to April and take courses at BU from April to July. Upon completion of the program they earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree and a Bachelor of Education degree, setting them up to work as teachers in either of the early or middle years areas.

This year’s celebration honoured 24 students who have completed PENT in 2022, 2021 or 2020. The ceremony began with the graduates and their escorts being introduced, followed by an opening prayer and a dinner. The program also featured remarks by Dean of Education Heather Duncan, BU President and Vice-Chancellor David Docherty, Chancellor Mary Jane McCallum and alumni supporter Gerald Butler. The evening also included an Open Floor opportunity for community representatives to pass along congratulations to the graduates.
