A familiar face will move across the hall at Brandon University and will bring her admissions experience to the recruitment of new students.

Leanne Barcellona has been named the new Director of Recruitment and Retention at BU, where she will lead the university’s efforts to welcome new students and support them through graduation.

Leanne Barcellona is the Director of Recruitment and Retention.

“Leanne is a spectacular fit for this role, and I’m extremely glad to have someone with the energy and enthusiasm that recruiting students demands,” said Katie Gross, Dean of Students at BU. “As a BU grad herself who has worked in areas around the campus, she brings deep wells of knowledge and a passion for BU.”

It’s been a hit-the-ground-running month for Barcellona, who started her new position at a critical point in the academic year.

“This is one of our busiest seasons, as we prepare for the start of Fall Term, to welcome all our brand-new incoming students, plus all of our returning students. There may be some unique challenges as everyone adjusts back to in-person learning,” Barcellona said. “I’m so thankful to be surrounded by a fantastic team, and we are working to be ready to support our students with positive and engaging campus experiences.”

Barcellona has previously served for three years as the Director of Admissions and Awards at Brandon University, as well as multiple roles in the Faculty of Education and School of Music at BU. She has a Master of Education in Post-Secondary Studies from Memorial University and is a BU alumna with a Bachelor of Arts.

“I am excited to shift into Recruitment and Retention and to help students find the right path to their postsecondary goals,” she said.

“I am very much looking forward to welcoming students back onto campus this fall – they really inspire our work, and we have all missed their energy and enthusiasm.”

Barcellona started her duties earlier this month.
