Brandon University to unveil ‘napping pod’ to help boost energy, alertness

Feel like you need a quick break? A new EnergyPod being unveiled this week in the Brandon University library will offer a private space for napping on campus — helping restore energy and focus with a little bit of shuteye.

  • Date: Thursday, February 2, 2023
  • Time: 2 p.m.
  • Location: John E. Robbins Library

The EnergyPod is jointly sponsored by the Brandon University Students’ Union, Fusion Credit Union, and BU Library Services. It is a zero-gravity positioned chair with a programmed sleep timer that also features specially composed sleep music to eliminate distractions and a gentle wake sequence to minimize grogginess.

Previously, EnergyPods have been implemented at Fusion Credit Union branches, along with massage chairs, as a result of an Innovation Den program that aims to enhance employee wellness and increase productivity.

Just a 20-minute nap can help with boosting learning, memory consolidation, enhancing alertness, and improving creativity and mood. The EnergyPod at BU will be available for both staff and students.

At Thursday’s unveiling, ‘nap time’ snacks will be available, courtesy Bailey’s Café.
