2020 Orientation Schedule

Read through the Orientation Schedule carefully and choose the sessions that interest you. Read closely, as some session require you to register and others do not.

10:00am -11:30am The BIG Welcome! Playfair will helps students to connect to one another and to feel part of the campus community. New students will meet each other in large and small groups, solve mental and physical challenges together, and will creatively interact in ever-shifting teams. Meet and learn more about your fellow first year students from the comfort of your own home! Learn more about Playfair.
12:00pm – 12:45pm IT & Library Services: Join BU’s Chief Information Officer, Melanie Sucha, for discussion of Library and IT Services available this Fall to support your online learning needs. We discuss the spaces that are open this Fall, access to spaces and information during the term and some frequently asked questions about technology at the university. Can’t make this session? It’s repeated two more times!
12:00pm – 1:00pm International Orientation: This session is lead by the Office of International Activities and will help guide International students through the processes they need to get started at BU. This session is mandatory for International students to attend.
12:00pm -1:00pm Parent/Supporter Session: This session is for the parents/support people of students beginning their academic journey. Learn ways to provide support and encouragement to your student and find answers to questions most frequently asked by student supporters!
12:00pm – 1:00pm Welcome to Music:This session is for students enrolled in the Music program. Registration is not required, student enrolled in this program will automatically receive an email with the Zoom details to their BU email account.
1:00pm  – 2:00pm Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education Integrated Program Information Session: Students will meet key faculty and staff members who will provide guidance to first year students in this unique integrated program. Registration is not required, student enrolled in this program will automatically receive an email with the Zoom details to their BU email account.

Indigenous Peoples’ Centre: Learn about the services and supports available through the Indigenous Peoples’ Centre. Connect with other new students as you start your journey at BU.
Achieving Success an International Student Panel: Join Iris and a panel of International students to learn about life in Brandon and at Brandon University.
Student Panel: This fall is going to look different for everyone. Hear from current students about how they are preparing for online learning. Discover what student life can be like at BU and what you have to look forward to when we return to campus.
1:30pm – 2:15pm IT & Library Services: Join BU’s Chief Information Officer, Melanie Sucha, for discussion of Library and IT Services available this Fall to support your online learning needs. 2:30pm – 3:15pm IT & Library Services: Join BU’s Chief Information Officer, Melanie Sucha, for discussion of Library and IT Services available this Fall to support your online learning needs. We discuss the spaces that are open this Fall, access to spaces and information during the term and some frequently asked questions about technology at the university.
2:30pm -3:30pm Welcome to Arts: If you’re taking a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, or Bachelor of Business Administration this session is for you! Discover the value of Arts degree and learn about the robust selection of disciplines within Arts.
Welcome to Pre-Nursing: At this session, information will be provided regarding assistance available to help you succeed, information about course syllabi, getting organized, resources available for students and the application process to the BN program.  Tracey Collyer will be happy to answer any other questions that you may have! Registration is not required, student enrolled in this program will automatically receive an email with the Zoom details to their BU email account.
3:30pm – 4:00pm Your Guide to an A-typical First Year: In this session, you will learn to navigate the Brandon University website so you can find all of the resources you need to be successful. You will also walk away with three tips to make your transition to online learning a smooth one! The chat will be open for a live Q & A.

*Please note: Some programs of study (ie: Pre-Psych Nursing) will have or already have had other Orientation events/sessions outside of September 8th.
