Dr. Newall also works with community organizations to examine how social programs can help older people become less lonely or socially isolated and more socially connected. She is further exploring how age-friendly communities can reduce barriers to social participation and is a member of the social inclusion and respect subcommittee of Age-Friendly Brandon.

Dr. Newall co-leads Targeting Isolation, an initiative that develops research-based information and resources for healthcare professionals, social service professionals, and community volunteers to help address and prevent social isolation and chronic loneliness among older adults (e.g., e-training modules; infographics; videos; pamphlets). This team has developed training e-modules for volunteers in community organizations and healthcare and social service professionals (e.g., pharmacists, social workers, occupational therapists) to identify and refer socially isolated adults to appropriate programs and services in Manitoba.
