Timely submission ensures that BUREC has ample opportunity to review and provide feedback to the PI and allows the PI time to respond and make any necessary revisions.\u00a0 No recruitment or data collection may commence until a formal BUREC Certificate for Research Involving Humans is received.<\/p>\n<p>If you are unsure as to whether or not your research project requires ethics approval, please complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/view.officeapps.live.com\/op\/view.aspx?src=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.brandonu.ca%2Fresearch%2Ffiles%2FBUREC-Exemption-Inquiry-Form-Revised-June-2020.docx&amp;wdOrigin=BROWSELINK\">BUREC Exemption Inquiry Form<\/a> and submit to <a href=\"&#109;&#x61;&#105;&#x6c;&#116;&#x6f;&#58;&#x62;u&#x72;e&#x63;&#64;&#x62;r&#97;&#x6e;&#100;&#x6f;&#110;&#x75;&#46;&#x63;&#97;\">BUREC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ethics Certification:\u00a0 <\/strong>Ethics certification is valid for a period of five (5) years.\u00a0 Continuing research ethics review is a requirement of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ethics.gc.ca\/eng\/policy-politique_tcps2-eptc2_2022.html\"><em>Tri-Council Policy Statement:\u00a0 Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS2-2022)<\/em><\/a> and an approved ethics submission is subject to ongoing monitoring throughout the life of the project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amendment Application:\u00a0 <\/strong>An Amendment Application\u00a0must be submitted for any changes a PI would like to make to their approved Ethics Applicaiton.\u00a0 Changes must be approved by BUREC before implementation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Renewal Application<\/strong>:\u00a0 Projects continuing beyond five years require the submission and approval of a Renewal Application prior to the expiration of the Ethics Certificate.\u00a0 Renewals are approved for one year and may be applied for annually, as needed.\u00a0 A PI who conducts research after an Ethics Certificate expires and before a Renewal Certificate is issued is considered to be in non-compliance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reporting:<\/strong>\u00a0 At minimum, continuing ethics review shall consist of an <strong>Annual Progress Report<\/strong> for the duration of the project and a <strong>Final Report<\/strong> at the end the project.\u00a0 At the time of review, BUREC will determine if more frequent continual research ethics review is required in accordance with a proportionate approach to review and level of risk.\u00a0 <strong><\/strong>Failure to fulfill the continuing research ethics review requirements is considered an act of non-compliance and may result in the suspension of active ethics certifications, refusal to review and approve any new research ethics submissions, and\/or others as outlined in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/research\/files\/BUREC-Non-Compliance-Policy-Procedures-Senate-Approved-December-2023.pdf\"><em>BUREC Non-Compliance <\/em><em>Policies and Procedures<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Applications and Forms BUREC Application\u00a0 Amendment Application Renewal Application Annual Report Form Final Report Form Secondary Use of Data Application Unanticipated Issue\/Event Report Form Ethics Exemption Inquiry Form Applications and appendices are to be submitted electronically to BUREC.\u00a0\u00a0Hard copy and scanned applications, or applications submitted using old forms, will not be accepted.
