Research Data Management \u201crefers to the processes applied through the lifecycle of a research project to guide the collection, documentation, storage, sharing and preservation of data.\u00a0 RDM supports the effective and responsible conduct of research and increases the ability to store, find and reuse research data\u201d (\u201cResearch Data Management<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0 Government of Canada.\u00a0 Accessed June 20, 2022).<\/p>\n

The Tri-Agency has adopted a Research Data Management Policy<\/a> that identifies the following three main pillars:<\/p>\n

1. Institutional RDM Strategies<\/strong>: Institutions must have institutional RDM strategies in place that are publicly available and include contact information.<\/p>\n

Brandon University Research Data Management Strategy<\/a><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 RDM Plans<\/strong>: Researchers should include methodologies reflecting RDM best practices in grant applications submitted to the Tri-Agency.\u00a0 For certain grant programs, Data Management Plans (DMPs) are required as part of the application.\u00a0 The following grant programs are among the first to require DMPs (and eventually all opportunities will require DMPs):<\/p>\n
