Morgan Yeroschak

What education have you taken?

I am currently completing my final year in the Faculty of Education at Brandon University. I also hold a Bachelor of Arts with a major in English and a minor in History from Brandon University.

What accomplishments are you proud of?

I am proud to be the current President of the Education Student Society at Brandon University. I also have worked with the Province of Manitoba, creating and implementing educational, social and recreational programming for children with special needs which has been very rewarding. I have spent many hours volunteering for local organizations in my hometown of Souris, Manitoba.

Tell me about yourself/ your background/ your history.

I grew up in Souris Manitoba, and graduated high school in 2007.  I have always been very active in my school and community, and this didn’t change when I headed to MSU-Bottineau in North Dakota on a volleyball scholarship. At this establishment I was an active student leader, and was on both Student Senate and the Dean’s Committee.

Following this I spent a year writing and recording country music in Winnipeg, Manitoba, before returning to University in the fall. I am proud to have released my first original album in January of 2013.

I then attended Brandon University to complete my Bachelor of Arts. Here too I was very involved, acting as a student ambassador, and volunteering in Souris. It was during these years that I also became involved with the Province of Manitoba’s ‘Children’s disABILITIES Services’ group, and began my work in creating specialized programming for children with special needs.

How did you become interested in your field of study?

When I was in kindergarten, my teacher told my mother she would be shocked if I did not one day become a teacher, and now 19 years later her prediction has come true! I guess that must mean I have always been interested in my field!

What is your philosophy in life?

My philosophy in life….tough question.  I guess I would say that I like to follow the advice of the Canadian rock band Trooper – ‘We’re here for a good time, not a long time.’  By that I mean that no matter what you do, you should love it. Life is short and we should enjoy every minute.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

It is my plan to return to Brandon University in the next few years to complete my Masters Degree in Education. I want to help influence and change the world of education to better suit the new age of students that are in our world today. I believe that the best way to do this is to educate myself, to help better educate our future generations. I also see myself on a beach in Mexico….so who knows?!

Nominator’s Comments

I would like to put forward a nomination for Morgan Yeroschak.  Morgan will graduate from the B. Ed. program this year.  Last year she was involved with the Education Students’ Society and this year is their President.  This past summer she managed a summer program for students with disabilities throughout the Westman area for the provincial government.  As well, she has released her own music cd.
