Joslin Mamuric

Joslin Mamuric

I am Joslin Melany Mamuric, a second year student from the Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing Program at the Faculty of Health Studies. My interest in serving people fueled my choice of taking a career path in the health care field, and specifically in an area that greatly incorporates mental health. I immigrated to Canada at the age of seventeen and started my post-secondary education at Brandon University. Although it is an enormous change to set foot and start a new chapter of life in a foreign country, I did not let this hinder my passion for serving and engaging within the community that I now consider home.

Volunteering as a Student Leader for two years and serving as the Public Relation’s Officer of the International Students’ Collective are some of the university activities that have provided an avenue for me to give back to the student body.  I am also involved in the Faculty of Health Studies’ research endeavors as a research assistant and have helped in organizing the New Beginnings Research Conference held in October 2018.  From what my parents have instilled in me, I believe that education is a gift we ought to treasure for it fills us with knowledge that we can use, not only improving ourselves, but also the lives of the people around us and ultimately the society that we live in.

Nominator’s Comments

I would like to nominate Joslin Mamuric as an exceptional female student.

Joslin is in her second year of the Psychiatric Nursing program. She has worked with me as a Research Assistant since Fall of 2017.

Joslin’s work ethic is second to none. She took a primary role in managing the execution of the New Beginnings: A Community Connective Research Conference on October 13. This included developing and managing the website, being the point person for questions, maintaining registration, and much of the promotions. Joslin always delivered excellent products; with very little editing. She works well independently, seldom seeking clarification.

Joslin takes on tasks with a positive attitude and her sunny smile makes everyone around her smile. She takes on simple and complex tasks with the same enthusiasm.

When I hired Joslin she had been involved with the Student Leader Program at Brandon University and had received her certificate for completing 22 hours of service. She also acted as a Student Leader in the 2017/18 year. Joslin also has second job off campus. In spite of her full schedule of work and volunteer activities, Joslin maintains high grades in her university classes.

I think Joslin would be a worthy recipient of the exceptional female student award.
