I also served as a student representative on the Brandon University Nursing Advisory Committee. I was the recipient of the 2009 Act Club scholarship. I was also a BLS instructor with Westman CPR.

Tell me about yourself.

I was born in Saskatoon, SK and moved to Brandon with my family in 1998. In 2005, I graduated with honours from Vincent Massey High School and attended Sheridan College for a performing arts certificate program. Throughout my nursing degree, I gained experience in the medical field working as a health care aide at a long term care facility, and as a summer student nurse at Stony Mountain Institution.

How did you become interested in your field of study?

During my education at Sheridan, I realized that a large part of me enjoyed working closely with people. I wanted to choose a profession that encompassed caring and compassion while providing me with a challenge. I believe that I chose the right career path as I feel nursing is a career that allows for personal growth and opportunities to give back to the community.

What is your philosophy in life?

I try to live by the saying “we don’t attract what we want, but what we are.” Each area of nursing that I have encountered teaches you a lot about the inherent worth of individuals, and helps you develop strong character and compassion. I find myself being very grateful for the intimate moments I have shared with clients, and for the valuable lessons I have learned throughout my clinical experiences.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

I am currently completing my senior practicum at the Grace General Hospital emergency department and find myself enjoying the rapid paced challenging environment. There are many areas of nursing that I still want to explore throughout my career including intensive care nursing, corrections, and obtaining a master’s degree as an advanced practice nurse.

What education have you taken?
