After a year at Brandon University, I lived in Western Canada for several years.\u00a0I went to Selkirk College in BC\u00a0and earned a certificate in Classroom Community Support Work. \u00a0I also hold a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate.\u00a0After\u00a0a variety of amazing \u201cschool of life&#8221; experiences, I decided to return to Brandon University to complete my B.A. degree, and pursue my dream of becoming a certified classroom teacher. I am currently in the final\u00a0semester of my Education degree.<\/p>\n<p><b>What accomplishments are you proud of?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I am quite proud of my decision to return to university studies! I have felt very supported by the Brandon University community. I have been the fortunate recipient of the Bjarnson Award for History\u00a0in the Americas, the B.U.S.U. Bursary and the Faculty of Education Alumni Award. This recognition\u00a0has been very meaningful and validating to me as a returning student. I have enjoyed working with other students as a Tutorial leader, and\u00a0sharing the university experience with all kinds of students.<\/p>\n<p><b>Tell me about yourself\/ your background\/ your history.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I grew up in Brandon, and most of my family lives in Westman.\u00a0 I have worked in the fields of childcare, supporting individuals with disabilities, and as an educational assistant. Most recently, I have been able to combine my love of teaching with my interest in other cultures\u00a0by teaching English as an additional language.\u00a0After spending years living in other parts of Canada and working overseas as an English teacher, it has been an interesting and wonderful experience to come back to my hometown. I am currently teaching English at Westman Immigrant Services, and love the increase in diversity and culture in our city.<\/p>\n<p><b>How did you become interested in your field of study?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I have\u00a0always loved\u00a0working with children and young people.\u00a0Teaching offers\u00a0a special opportunity to\u00a0connect with and teach\u00a0students and to be a positive influence in their lives. I\u00a0am excited to\u00a0continue to learn and grow with and from students and other educators.\u00a0I come from a family of teachers, so I understand the creativity, commitment and passion needed to be a good teacher.<\/p>\n<p><b>What is your philosophy in life?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I believe in being open to new opportunities and\u00a0seeking out\u00a0the positive in all experiences.<\/p>\n<p><b>Where do you see yourself in the future?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0would love\u00a0to be\u00a0teaching my own class in\u00a0a dynamic\u00a0school\u00a0in the Westman area!
